Sixgill will donate $1 of each sale to the Kawasaki Kids Foundation. Kawasaki Disease is the leading cause of acquired heart disease in children. Children under 5 years old make up 80% of cases. For more information please visit www.kawasakikidsfoundation.com.
"Our son Justin was diagnosed with KD (after multiple misdiagnosis) at 4 months old. It is estimated that more than 4,200 children are diagnosed with Kawasaki Disease yearly in the United States, most under the age of 5. The cause of KD is unknown, but thought to be triggered by a virus or environmental wind borne agent creating a total body inflammatory response. It is the number 1 cause of acquired heart disease in children. Justin was not treated in the critical 10 day window because he was misdiagnosed as having "just a virus" by urgent care pediatricians and ER pediatricians. Since he didn't receive IVIG treatment in time, he developed multiple medium sized coronary aneurysms. We are forever grateful to his Doctors at MSU pediatrics who did diagnose him correctly and knew it was more than "just a virus". Justin is lucky because his coronary aneurysms have regressed - some children's never do. He will need long term followup with a cardiologist with yearly echocardiograms at minimum.
We are thankful to have a supportive family and the Kawasaki Kids Foundation to help raise awareness for this awful disease. - Justin, Sixgill Founder
